Fashion Film

Dear all,
In the last years I lost my desire to enter in the clothing brands websites, why?! Because they are static, passive and sometimes boring and difficult.
Fashion brands woke up and now they are working to try to fix that. How?! Creating content to make more attractive their websites and bring people to check them and maybe buy something in the e-store. One question that I was trying to resolve this morning, was that how looks like the fashion websites in the future?! Like magazines?! Is the end of the magazines and the journalist will have to join the fashion brands and deliver a lot of stuff for them?!
What they attract traffic to the websites?! Fashion films is one of the tools and I am really interesting of them. I have to recognize that I really love them (all of them because there are different ways to make them, I talk later about it). Fashion films are a cinematographic’s dream -senses, moods,… Unlike commercials, which are forthright in their messaging and typically utilise an “appeal to the masses” approach, fashion films aim for a softer sell and typically target a niche audience.
Web video platforms as Youtube for example, it has led to an increase in fashion films. Brands have perception of that tendency and try to have deeper connections with their audience. divides fashion films in the following sub-genres:
  • Product Placement Films.
  • A-day-in-the-life Film.
  • Narrative Films.
  • Music-driven Films.
  • Experimental Fashion Film.
  • Fashion Documentary.
  • Lookbooks.
  • And I will ad Interviews.
Fashion Films got a lot repercussion and a proof of that is the big fashion films festivals around the world. The most important ones are:
How a look of some of them:

Alexander McQueeb

To sum up, the fashion industry is embracing film to showcase collections, create buzz and interact with consumers. Besides, fashion films don’t have to be a big-budget Hollywood productions, so small brands could afford it and also do an amazing job!

Seoul – Munsoo Kwon

Dear all,

How are you?! I hope you are having a good time sharing it with your family and friends.

Today I was thinking back about my Asians friends in NYC. Over there, I have developed an admiration for that cultures and one country that surprises me a lot in a good way was South Korea. After that, I was having conversations with my mates to understand and learn about their culture. Besides that, I was taking Korean classes to improve my knowledge about their country and behaviour.

Nowadays, Seoul is blooming culturally talking. Not only in fashion, that it is the theme of this blog mainly; also in music, art, retail concepts (amazing stores are opened in the last years), and so on. The South Korean capital has slowly but surely made its mark in the fashion world, evident by the surge of creativity from local brands that have taken the planet by storm. One of them is Munsoo Kwon!

After cutting his teeth under the tutelage of such names as Robert Geller, Helmut Lang, Thom Browne, and culminating with 5 seasons as a designer at Andrew Buckler, MUNSOO KWON has launched his very first collection for Fall/Winter 2012, in New York.

MUNSOO KWON attempts to steer clear of the traditional saturated menswear market, and build his designs based on neatly tailored modern silhouettes that are practical; yet maintain his own distinctive design. His aesthetic is faithful to proportions and carefully designed for an impeccable fit, while still using his unique detailing. Rather than overtly branding his pieces, MUNSOO KWON uses his signature split-open details on the back and special pockets on shirts to create a coherent brand representation.

Have a look to the styles presented by the designer for the FW15 collection.

Alife & Puma

Dear all,

We are finishing 2015 and I looking back at my year, I was thinking that maybe 25% of the time I was running. When you are working hard not also at your job you need to find stuff to put your mind in blank and do not think for a while. In my case, I chose running but in 2015 I decide to enrol in the Amsterdam Marathon. It was a big deal for me and I was very focus during the preparation.

Saying that, I was researching and reading a lot about the world around the running world. For my surprise and as I fashion lover, I discovered a big and amazing world between sports (running in particular) and fashion. In the past, we had specific sports brands as Nike, Adidas, Puma,… and fashion brands but now both sides take inspiration from the other. The sporty trend may be super comfy, but there’s more to this fad than fancy sweatshirts and tailored track pants. Have a look to this amazing collaboration between Alife & Puma.

Designers, fashion editors and shoppers are eating these styles up with the same fervour we all did any popular baker good. Do the same! Run to the stores, go to the e-stores, look for new brands,… And introduce these technics garments in your life and outfits.

The rise of activewear as a fashion trend has been evolving for the past years. For fall 2015 it continues on the direction of sleek, minimal and luxurious, making itself ripe for new interpretations that blur the boundaries between daywear and activewear.

Dear all,

Please, could you stop for a second and think which is the color that you are most seeing everywhere?!… tic tac tic tac time out! What about yellow?! Maybe I am wrong and it is me but I am seeing a lot of yellow in cafes, restaurants, shops,… and most important fashion brands also have done a wink to this wonderful color.

Talking about yellow, we can say that it is the color of sunshine. It is associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Knowing those positive messages that yellow evokes, why fashion brands choose this color for autumn-winter season if is is not a good color commercially speaking?! Maybe because inspiration comes from everywhere and designers didn’t be blind about the fact that yellow is in trend.

Besides, yellow is very effective for attracting attention, so use it to highlight the most important elements of your design; basically, you use this color to give a touch of happiness inside of your collection and after you transmit that to your store increasing the attention and traffic that it is one of the biggest problems that fashion brands are suffering at the moment.

Are you gonna try to wear yellow this autumn-winter?!

Umit Benan

Dear all,

How are you dealing with summer?! Working or already in the “Chiringuito” in somewhere?! In Madrid, the weather is crazy hot and is very difficult after working a lot of hours finding some time to sit down and try to share with you fun and interesting things of this wonderful world called fashion.

Today, I want to talk about an awesome designer from Turkey called Umit Benan. In his website you can fin that he wanted to be a filmmaker, but diverted to fashion rather naturally, keeping the urge to tell stories intact. He makes no real distinction between life, fantasy and fiction because really there isn’t one. “I am interesting in contrasts. That’s what life is all about, isn’t?!” -he says. His clothes-real, bold, imaginative-follow suit.

Saying that, in his SS16 catwalk, he has presented to us a collection inspired in Cuba, especially about the “Comandante Che Guevara”. Who says that communism and fashion will be related. Benan imagined Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, high on their victory over dictator Batista, celebrating in a Havana night club over cigars and cuba libres.

Have a look of the outfits that he has presented to us and especially to the military-isn details as for example the colors (army green or air force blue).

I hope you like it as much as I do.

T-shirts & Holes

Dear all,

As you maybe know, today is gonna start officially the summer and in this period one of the most important garments are the T-shirts. You have many options to wear it: plain, with stripes, with dots, allover prints, fluor colors, basic colors (white, black,…), and so on. But my best option and obsession is a little bit oversize, with acid or garment dye with a lot of holes made in purpose. In California, they are putting rock&roll front prints too or messages and I really like this too. Have a look of this brand: Braain Waashed, I am in love with this brand; really cool stuff.

Let’s do it yourself and use the scissors, you will have a lot of fun and you will look so trendy this summer.

sporty influence!

Hey Guys,

Sportswear in the origins were clothes designed for sporting use and nowadays widely worn as casual wear. Common items of sportswear include shorts, T-shirts, track-suits, sweaters and sneakers/trainers.

As I said before, you can get a casual outfit mixing sportswear with other garments as denim,… But with the furor of this sporty look and trend, many designers/brands introduce this influence in their designs as a total look or only in some details as collars, cuffs, and so on. Besides they also add technical fabrics that used to be part of the sportswear and they try to made dresses, skirts,… You only have to remember the crazy offer in neoprene for example (sweatshirts, skirts,…).

I have to admit as I really like to play with garments for my outfits, I like this trend a lot and It lasts for a couple of seasons more; to continue enjoy it. I would like to show you some pictures that I take for some brands to see this sporty trend.

Hey Guys,

Socks, this small piece of clothes that you wear in the bottom of your body and sometimes you don’t care about it. Well, let’s talk about the history of it and we can say that socks have evolved over the centuries from the earliest models, which were made from animal skins gathered up and tied around the ankles. In the 8th Century BC, the Ancient Greeks wore socks from matted animal hair for warmth. The Romans also wrapped their feet with leather or woven fabrics. By the 5th century AD, socks called “puttees” were worn by holy people in Europe to symbolise purity. By 1000 AD, socks became a symbol of wealth among the nobility. From the 16th century onwards, an ornamental design on the ankle or side of a sock has been called a clock.

With the invention of a knitting machine in 1859 meant that socks could be knitted six times faster than by hand. Nonetheless, knitting matching and hand knitters worked side by side until 1800. The next revolution in sock production was the introduction of nylon in 1938. Until then socks were commonly made from silk, cotton and wool. Nylon was the start of blending two or more yarns in the production of socks, a process that still continues.

Saying that and never trying to bore you with all of this history and figures; my purpose was to put the socks in the place that they deserve it in this fashion world. Nowadays, socks are in trend and in an important position; you can see in the amount of time that people take to choose it for their outfits, they different options that they have to wear with shoes, sneakers,… and also with sandals something that before was rejected by the fashion world. Also, you can see the expensive prices that socks can have and also brands specialised only in socks. I have to say that I am really happy about it  as fashion is always have fun and play with it; there are so many options and shapes right now to wear it in a cool way: plain colors, allover print, mix fabrics, stripes, flushing colors,… They can help you as a bag or shoes done to make your outfit of the day shine. Have a look to some proposals and try to adapt them to yourself.

Please pay attention to socks as they can help you the whole year to complete your outfits.

Messages in Fashion

Hey Guys,

Did you get the message?! Why I am saying this because there are many literature and discussions about from where fashion comes. Hypostesis talk about top-bottom and bottom-top influences. For example a top-bottom influence is when big designers (Karl Lagerfeld,…) presents their collections in the catwalks and people in the sector look at them and they try to do something similar.

Today, in this supersaturated world, is very difficult to say from where the influences are coming because there are stimulus everywhere and people take ideas from everything (catwalks, architecture, colours, shapes, movies, music,…) I am observing a clear influence from the social networks and you could see how haute-couture brands also adapt it and it is the presence of messages in t-shirts, coats, and so on. We are living in a society that needs to show how they feeling, where they are, with who,… and most important share it with as much people as they can.

With the social networks people start putting stuff about their daily lives and this arrives to fashion and you can appreciate it in the shops, clothes,… nowadays. It does not escape from the fashion sector and many brands are using it to try to increase sales  having the trends in their offer. They are introducing the messages especially in the top parts: t-shirts, shirts/blouses and sweatshirts but also you can see in other garments and places as for example collars, … besides the footwear (keep on eye on it!).
